Man, Myth, Legend, Dad

Today started with pancakes and ended with icecream plus lots of relaxing and fun in between. Some of the most memorable moments were when Austin ran into the bedroom full of glee and jumped onto Scott shouting "Happy Father's Day, Daddy" like I'd coached him at the diaper table. Or later when the boys started singing, "Happy Father's Day to You" in the happy birthday tune. Their gift to Scott included his first "dad mug" with the inscription of this post's title, a box of chocolates and a recordable book with the boys' talking and answering questions (so cute).  They were thrilled to have a day all about their special dad and no one deserved it more than Scott, since he'd just spent 3 days in bed with a brutal bout of bronchitis. I'd never seen him so sick, but thankfully he's been his energizer self again today.

Rather than going anywhere, we just decided to take advantage of the pond in our front yard -- something we don't do often enough. We hiked around the pond and had a picnic and tried another short round of fishing. We didn't have high hopes with just one barely baited rod, but little Austin stole the show by catching our first fish ever here with just a weight and a fishing line -- no hook! Scott reached to help Austin get a better grip on the rod and couldn't believe it when he felt the tug of the fish -- they reeled it in together and the boys were thrilled to actually see "a real fish" before throwing it back.

The boys completely adore their dad and he couldn't be more devoted to them. I'm so thankful he was better in time to enjoy this day. After naptime and a yummy dinner on the deck, he even suggested we drive to town to get icecream, which the boys were happy to do, of course. Happy Father's Day to this incredible man...

Austin's Birthday Attempt 2

Our baby boy turned 2 this past weekend, and unfortunately, like last year, he was sick for his party! Unlike last year, we had to cancel the whole production because his fever was scary high and we even made a trip to urgent care. Fortunately, we'd spent his actual birthday (the day before the party) celebrating very hard, and the process of looking over the photos for this post has made me feel a little better about Austin's sick birthday Number 2. I do plan to keep him in a bubble next year at least a week before his birthday -- this sweet boy deserves a healthy celebration! We loved celebrating him every chance we could this week, though, and he got to blow out 3 candles on 3 cakes and open lots of presents, so I think he knows how incredibly special he is to everyone.

First stop was J. Christopher's for pancakes before going to the aquarium and seeing a dolphin show

Austin loved blowing out his pancake candle, took a bite, and then asked for cheese grits --  loves em like his momma!

Quick photo opp before the aquarium (the father son matching shirts were not planned but they do look kinda cute:)

Pancakes to aquarium then back to home for nap -- then back to downtown woodstock to meet lisa, ashlyn and dominic for pizza and smores!

happy big brother

the smores were a hit

cracking each other up

enjoying the downtown festivities

hitting the playground -- we packed it in that day!

The next morning (party day) Austin woke up with a 103.8 fever. He was very sick. Fortunately, we were able to fit in a visit from pumpkin and a cake when the ibuprofen kicked in.

Since just us -- we let him dive in to the leftovers!

He didn't eat much, but loved the attention and mess

No better place to be sick than in a hammock...
