Update

The longer I wait to write this post, the harder it gets to catch up, so I'm just going to do it now even in this state of exhaustion that hasn't really lifted since we started the process of moving. First trying to find a house, then trying to rent and sell our house, the passing of our beloved dog Indy during the process, buying an older house, renovating the house, moving into house, and all with two little rascals who make the changes much more complicated. That pretty much sums up our past couple of months with the loss of Indy being incredibly upsetting (bone cancer). We love you and miss you, our precious pup.

We've been in our new home for over a week, and I've yet to unpack the camera, which is collecting dust, and I just hope I remember how to work it! I look forward to taking pics of both the new property and the many creatures that inhabit it along with us, including our friendly roosters next door. We have made a sudden and drastic move from the suburbs to the country -- and ironically back to the home town where I spent the first decade of my life. Unexpectedly, Scott and I fell in love with this little corner of the earth and we hope to make it a place that will stay with our family for generations. It's a former log cabin (now hardiplank), a pond, and several acres, where you can sit on the porch and feel total privacy, but just drive down the road to get back to civilization -- and Starbucks! We love the old and new charm of the downtown woodstock area, and best of all, we are close to my sister, grandmother and lifelong friends.

We knew this move was coming, and when we stumbled on this property, I guess we just knew it was time. The sooner we move the boys, the better, was my thought, given that I want their childhood spent in one place where they can make their own lifelong friends and roots and I couldn't imagine a better place than where we've landed. I do have some things to get used to, like the abundant bug life and the total black silence at night, but getting back to my love of nature is a welcome change and an experience I really want for the boys.

I think we had such a great life where we were, that to leave it required this kind of drastic change, so here we are -- renovating a house with small children, taking on the overwhelming yardwork of 6 wild acres, and learning about owning a large pond -- but even in the most crazed moments, I know we made the right decision.

I do look forward to when the last box is unpacked -- whenever that beautiful moment will be :). I'm sad I've missed documenting the boys' last few months in photos and with this blog, but can sum it up by saying they are in love with the new home, the adventure and activity of it, and we are all enjoying living on one level in the Ranch-style of the house -- the closeness and convenience of it.

Now we just need a canoe, some fishing rods, and swimming lessons for the boys!
